An Introduction to Mimas Bibliographic Services

Mimas would like to announce that the free training course 'An
Introduction to Mimas Bibliographic Services' will be held in Manchester
on Wednesday 04 November 2009 and in London on Wednesday 11 November 2009. Attendance is free of charge but you do need to register in advance.
Who is this course for?
This course is for academics, researchers, postgraduate students,
librarians and support staff within Higher and Further Education. Some
experience of using a web browser will be useful for the practical
exercises.

This is an overview course providing a basic introduction to a range of Mimas resource discovery tools and includes the opportunity for hands-on.
Ideal for:
- New members of staff involved in finding information.
- New researchers and research assistants about embark on their first project.
- Post-graduates that want to learn how to find primary source material, books and journal articles to produce a literature review on their area of expertise.
During the day the following services will be covered:
- Archives Hub: (http://www.archiveshub.ac.uk)
a basic introduction to finding primary source material. The Archives Hub provides access to descriptions of archives held in over 170 UK universities and colleges.
- Copac:(http://copac.ac.uk)
Copac: a basic introduction to resource discovery using Copac, a merged union catalogue including the catalogues of the major UK and Irish National, Academic and Special libraries.
- ISI Web of Knowledge Service for UK Education: (http://wok.mimas.ac.uk)
a basic introduction to the Web of Knowledge (WoK) research platform that helps you find, analyse and manage information in the sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities.(Session will cover the Web of Science resource only).
- Zetoc: (http://zetoc.mimas.ac.uk)
a basic introduction to an Electronic Table of Contents service. How to keep up-to-date by creating alerts to the British Library's Electronic Table of Contents for journals and conference proceedings.
